Born in 1949 in England, in the West Midlands, Katharine learned to engrave glass with Peter Dreiser 1984-7 at Morley College in London.
She has work in many international public collections, including the Veste Coburg (DE), MUDAC (CH), the Victoria & Albert in London, Corning (USA) and the Ernsting Stiftung (DE). She has won several prizes, including an Hon Mention Prize in the 2006 Coburger Glaspreis and the People’s Prize in the 2015 British Glass Biennale. She received the MBE (UK State Medal) in 2009 for her work in glass engraving.
With three solo exhibitions in Paris and work shown in America, Australia, Japan, China and many European galleries and museums, two themes have long interested her: the illusion of a smaller vessel suspended within a larger, and the sculptural beauty of simple natural objects.
Katharine teaches engraving in London, at the Studio in Corning (USA) and Bild-Werk Frauenau. A co-founder of the Glass Engraving Network, she is active promoting contemporary glass engraving worldwide.
