I try to capture the relationships that move our lives. I’m inspired by paintings by Goya and Brueghel; I also add a little of contemporary knowledge.
I am mainly interested in visual communication and the creative process. Glass engraving is basically a matter of meditation. It helps me a lot to get under the surface and come in the inner world.
For more than 20 years I have used overlay ‘cathedral’ glass to express my themes. A layer of coloured glass of about one millimetre is applied to a thicker layer of clear glass, and I remove the coloured layer step by step. Colours have a strong effect on our emotions, so stained glass has long been used in temples. My engravings are small stained glass.
