Frank Bartholomäus, born in 1954, decided to pursue an education as a glass engraver in Zwiesel in Bavarian Forest after dropping out of two technical studies. He then studied sculpture at the Academy of Art in Munich, and thereafter worked at various glass studios and small glass manufactories.
He ultimately learned a second profession as a glass cutter. Upon completing his master’s examination in glass cutting, he opened his own studio in the Allgäu region and worked as a freelance glass artist for many years.
After a creative blackout, he set aside his artistic profession for nearly one and a half decades and worked as a system developer and programmer. In 2013, he found his way back to his roots and has since been actively working as a freelance glass artist with his own studio in Leipzig.
The artist on his work: “With each new piece, I still succumb to its fascination and see realising each new idea as a fresh challenge. In addition to combining glass with a wide range of materials, the outer contours of many of my sculptures correspond with the depicted content, creating a harmonious unity.”
